Hallmark Medical coverage rules:

Retired from Hallmark Cards, Inc. at age 50 or after, or retired from Litho-Krome less than 10 years from your normal retirement date.

  • Had 15 vested years of service or if you retired after age 65, 10 vested years.
  • Had 10 or more years of continuous medical plan participation immediately preceding retirement-as either a full-time or part-time employee.
  • Had at least 10 years of full-time service (working a schedule equivalent to 40 hours a week). This may have been either continuous or non-continuous service and did not need to be immediately prior to retirement.
  • If you retired between the ages of 50-54, you will pay the full medical premium (Tier 4). Subsidized coverage is available to employees who retired at age 55 or older, based on vested years of service.
  • Must have retired before January 1, 2012 to be eligible for Medicare secondary medical coverage (may continue to be eligible for dental and vision).
  • Anyone hired on or after January 1, 2010 is not eligible for medical, dental or vision benefits in retirement.

Spousal Coverage:

  • Spouse or DP had to be added to retiree coverage AT THE TIME of retirement. Cannot be added at a later date.
  • If coverage was waived prior to age 65, retiree must have come onto coverage on or before turning age 65 and spouse or DP must have come back onto coverage at that same time.

Rate tiers and cost are determined by the following:

  • Tier 1 55 or more years of age at retirement 25 or more years of “vested” service
  • Tier 2 55 or more years of age at retirement 20 - 24 years of “vested” service
  • Tier 3 55 or more years of age at retirement 15 - 19 years of “vested” service
  • Tier 4 50 – 54 years of age at retirement 15 or more years of “vested” service

As of January 1, 2022, Hallmark will discontinue offering Medicare secondary coverage and any subsidy. If you are interested in speaking to a Cigna representative regarding other options available through them, call 855-459-7602 and let them know you are a Hallmark retiree.
